Description: Website states: The Slanted Door is located in the northeast corner of the restored Ferry Building across The Embarcadero from the foot of Market Street.

The restaurant seats 150 people in the dining room, 20 at the bar and 44 people in our newly opened heated patio. Additionally there is a 34-seat cocktail lounge facing the bar. The area has numerous parking options as well as being a public transportation hub. Please note that the lot previously at Pier 1/2, north of the ferry building, is now permanently closed.

The Slanted Door is a modern Vietnamese restaurant that showcases the abundance of produce as well as ecologically farmed meat, game and poultry found at farms around the San Francisco Bay Area.

The Phan family opened the original Slanted Door in 1995 on Valencia Street with a vision to blend Vietnamese cooking technique with local ingredients. We take this vision even further in a new environment, designed by Olle Lundberg, overlooking the San Francisco Bay.

"Now I get it!!"

February 1, 2012

  • Food: Vietnamese
  • Decor: Simple with a fantastic bay bridge view
  • Service: Great
  • Cost: $$$
  • Wine / Cocktails: Bee's knees!!

Overview:

Everytime someone talks about this place they absolutely rave about it. I really wasn't sure what all the hype was about but I get it now!! Every dish was flavorful but light. The slanted door spring rolls with peanut sauce was excellent, the cellophane noodles with crab were amazing, but the crispy whole branzino - oh the crispy whole branzino - was off the charts good. Lightly fried whole fish (a seabass) with a sauce that made you want to like the plate clean. With the jasmine rice mixed in - OMFG. Sadly, we had no room for dessert.

Recommended Dishes:

All of the above!!

Overview:

This was a rough reservation to get and I can why. Had the spring rolls to start.....light with fantastic shrimp and a peanut sauce that really made the dish. Dinner was the whole fried branzino (a white flaky fish) with jasmine rice and a sauce that I don't even know how to describe other than delicious!! Make sure someone orders this at your table if it's on the menu.

Recommended Dishes:

Branzino, cellophane modules with crab, and spring rolls.

Overview:

The Slanted Door's view of the lit Bay Bridge was phenomenal! There vast menu and impeccable service left me truly impressed. I ordered the Uni with black tobiko, avocado, and cucumber. The uni was flavorful and super rich. Also, the tobiko and sweet avocado complemented each other perfectly. The Daikon rice cakes were a simple and tasty delight!
